  XDcam EX & Canon 7D Need advice for editing process

  Hello

  First of all sorry for my poor english.

  MACPro 2*2,66 Dual Core
  FCP 6.06 – Mac OS 10.6.3
  Kona 7.5.1 NDD
  Footage : 1080 p25 from : EX3/EX1 XDCamEX/7D Canon
  Monitoring : JVC TMH1750C (Analog SD)
  G-tech Graid 8 TB (FW800)

  I have footage from a 3 multicam (15 X 3 = 45 hours)
  It s a Cooking DVD (25 recipes)
  There is a color grading plan at the end.

  I convert this footage in Prores(I suppose Prores HQ is not needed ?)
  My g-raid don’t support the 3 muticam.

  So i have 2 choices :

  1- UPGRADE MY HARDWARE

  Buy a new Storage which support 3 multicam Prores 1080 p like : G-Tech G-Speed ES or ES Pro in Raid 5

  2- MAKE LIGHT PREVIOUS EDITING AND BATCH THE SEQUENCE AT THE END IN PRORES

  Buy FCP 7 Convert my footage in Prores LT.
  And when the editing is finish make a batch capture whith Normal Prores file.

  This option is possible ?
  I m afraid at the end of the editing to have a lot of work to batch all my sequences and recover all the files

  I really need some advice before to start to edit.

  I hope my post is clear enought.

  ProRes LT is not an offlining coded. ProRes PROXY is. As long as you use LOG AND TRANSFER for both, it will be a snap. BUT, with XDCAM EX, you don’t use L&T do you? A separate app is used for that, no? I don’t see how to do it with a separate app myself.

  I’d get a better RAID.

  Can you confirm that i dont need HQ ! and Prores (normal) is enought for going to the color grading ?

  You don’t need HQ. I have worked with ProRes with XDCAM, HDV and DSLR footage for network delivery and all has been great. HQ is overkill for what I do.
