We are experiencing errors when trying to clone the master OSX/App volume using CCC or SuperDuper. The error has to do with an AE8 preference file.

Has anyone experienced this problem and found a solution?

I thought it might be related to the AE activation/deactivation status, but it’s not. Although the preference area where the error occurs, does seem to be the area where AE8 writes/removes files related to activation/deactivation.

I might note, I was able to clone the volume one time after I 1st installed the CS3 production bundle using CCC 3.x beta, but now neither CCC or SuperDuper work.

I have had this EXACT same problem–and I do have a solution.

Caveta: You may have to go back and repeat the fix down the road.

The problem is ALWAYS with that little AE pref file. Go figure. You need to run disk utility from the CD and repair your permissions. I also have had similiar success using DiskWarrior by Alsoft.

Again though the problem has resurfaces a couple of times since I first saw it. (It started for me back when I was using the beta version of AE8).

    Craig…

Did you repair permissions while the volume was mounted as the OSX volume or while running from your Disk Warrior disc?

I ask because I tried running repair permissions while the volume was as OSX volume and CCC still failed in the same way.

I have heard deleting the offending pref files will also work, but I need to make sure this won’t affect the activation/deactivation status of AE8.

Thanks for your post. Maybe it’s time to pick up Disc Warrior. 🙂

I can’t remember with 100% certainty so let me break it down

    1. I KNOW running Disk Utility: Repair Permissions from the boot drive DOESN’T fix the problem
    2. I KNOW running DiskWarrior from it’s own boot disk DOES fix the problem.
    3. I think that MAYBE running Apple’s own Disk Utility from the Apple CD-ROM does fix the problem.
