  • Setting playhead to “Open” for Multicam inconsistent

I don’t know if this is a FCP7 example of “bugginess” but I’m cutting a four camera episode using Multiclips and I find that when I set the playhead to open, so that I can see all four angles in the viewer window, it behaves erratically.

Sometimes it won’t show me the four angles and will only show me the angle that was last selected so I can’t cut while it’s playing, thereby negating the brilliance of the Multicam function.

My set up is correct, I just can’t find any pattern of when it does work and when it doesn’t work.

Anyone come across this? I hadn’t experienced this in FCP6 so I wondered it it’s a bug in FCP7?

    Cheers.

Is it rendering those sections. I have not used FCP7 for multicam much but I 6, if I rendered the section or left auto render on it would take me a moment to realize what has happened.

Then of course making sure that Play Multiclip is selected under RT tab.

    Thanks for your reply Michael,

I turned the auto rendering off after reading one of your earlier posts on the subject, and I can’t tell for sure, but it may have helped. However I still get the same problem where it sometimes shows me all four angles and allows me to cut and other times only shows me the selected angle in the viewer window.

I’ve also been getting that error message about dropped frames where it suggests you get a faster computer or drives or memory etc. But none of those things are the issue as I have an 8 core with 16 GB RAM and the rushes are on a raid 0 drive playing through eSata.

Very strange and hard to troubleshoot errors that are not consistent. I have made sure that “play multiclip” is selected as you suggest, so I’ll keep reading around and see if anyone else has had this problem. So far I can only assume it’s a bug.

Cheers again for taking the time to reply,

    Andrew

Did you get anywhere with this Andrew? I am having a similar problem. I have been editing and viewing the multiclip just fine up until last night. Then when i came back to my suite it won’t let me see all 4 angles when the playhead is moving. When I hit stop it displays all 4. I had noticed that an auto render had been done overnight and the orange render bar has gone from the top of my sequence. How do i revert back so i can continue to cut between the angles dynamically?

    Thanks

    Dave
