  Frame rate issues

  Hi,

  I am having trouble matching up the frame rates from my imported HDV footage to my sequence in FCP7. The footage was shot with a Canon XH A1, 60 fps, HDV1080i.

  When I capture the footage in FCP7, the clips automatically change to 29.97 fps. I’ve set the sequence to 60 fps 1080i but I can’t figure out how to change the clip settings or why FCP is capturing it in 29.97 fps. When I right click on the clip and select ‘Clip settings’, I get an error message saying “No items have files that are applicable to this operation.” The footage looks blurry when I drag it into the timeline.

  Any idea on why this is happening?

  You misunderstand. 1080i60 means Interlaced…60 FIELDS per second, playing at 30fps…or 29.97. 1080i60 is a 30 frame format. When you see the “p” after the name, then you know it is FRAMES per second. 720p60 for example, is 60fps.

  That would be a really neat trick, since that camera shoots at 29.97 FPS. There is no HDV camera that shoots 1080i at 60 frames per second.

  I would refer you to whatever manual that came with the camera to clarify.
