  • Setting up capture device in FCP Studio 2.

I have been asked to capture a Sd project on a new Macbook pro running FCP 6.4

The device is a Sony GVD 1000 digital recording deck. I went through the capture presets NTSC Firewire basic but the device cannot be found either through Capture now or L&C. I checked the apple site and it is not on one of the supported device lists, but I worked with this same deck and version on a G5 a year ago.
Ive gone through several iterations including on off, but no device.

Is there another way to make the deck visible or can I get an sd camera and capture from it (none of those are listed either)

    thanks

Since it’s a Sony Device, try the “easy setup” (found in the Final Cut Pro Menu) for DV NTSC.

Try a different cable if that doesn’t work, and restarting FCP sometimes shakes things so they work too.

I had a similar experience earlier today actually- believe it or not sometimes it helps to literally restart everything (computer and tape deck alike). Make sure the settings on the deck are correct too obviously, but yes if all fails you can use the camera- not idealthough cos it marginally decreases ur cameras longevity as it wears through the tape heads faster 🙂
