You need to convert the mov files before you bring them into FCP, use compressor, make sure you match the frame resolution to what was shoot 1080p or 720p. Keep the frame rate on current and progressive and it will work for you.

How do I capture into Final Cut Pro? That is really what I would like to do instead of converting. Is this possible?

I find it very odd that Final Cut Pro with not work with .mov files automatically.

.mov only means it is a QT file, can be one of many codecs, that codec it not made for editing and needs to be converted if you want to use FCP. For fast and quick edits of footage like this Premiere Pro CS5 will do a much better job working with the native files. There is reasons to convert them on more complicated jobs but for quick easy edits FCP is a little behind the time.

Don’t know about capturing, it does have video cables but you would need a capture device.

I’m having trouble importing .mov files into FCP.

The camera automatically uploaded the files as .mov and I get an error message when trying to log and transfer them.

The frame rates dont match up and the clips play slow.

    Any suggestions?

    Michael

.mov is doesn’t mean a much, all it means is that it has a QT wrapper, the codec is what is important. Do you know what it is? Is not open QT player and show movie inspector and let me know.

How do I figure out the codec?

I’m pretty sure they are just a quicktime file.

Hi also got alomst the sam question. I filmed with a cannon EOS 550D, an the format of the clips is auto in MOV and PAL, 1920 × 1080, H.264, Linear PCM, 45 528, frame rate 30/s.

What codec do I use in Compressor? There are a ton of codecs and don’t know witch one to use.

    Thanx in advance/Martin
