Hi, I am trying to edit Apple ProRes422 footage with FCP5.0.1. I can see and play the footage fine in monitor but I can not create a sequence using the compressor. I’ve tried to download and install the Codec but I get an error saying “You cannot install Apple ProRes QuickTime Decoder on this volume. You already have a newer version of this software installed.” Which make sense because it is playing, but still won’t let me create a time line using ProRes422.

PLEASE Help! Up against a deadline for tomorrow!

Pro Res was introduced with FCP 6. If you want to use ProRes, you’ll need to upgrade to FCP 6 or 7.

That is only for playback “Decoder”, You can play it, edit it but the compression (what things get rendered to) will have to be set to something different. NO way around that other than getting FCP6 or 7.

DVCProHD or DVCPro50 maybe a good choice for you if you cannot work with uncompressed as you compression setting.
