Workflow question. Fcp 6
Posted by Greg Burke on May 13, 2010 at 8:19 pmHey guys I’m cutting a music video and all the audio was recorded on a seperate source. What’s the best way to sync the sound with the shots so I don’t have to drag 1 take in the timeLine then drag the sound so it matches. Or is this how you do it for every take? Is there a way that I could easliy sync the sound and clip so I can preview the shot in the viewer? Thanks.

May 13, 2010 at 8:32 pmAssuming that a clapper or timecode wasn’t used to sync the audio and video, I believe a solution would be a piece of software called PluralEyes.
I haven’t used it, but it’s used to sync up video/audio clips by sound. So if the song was played during the shoot for the band to play along to, and you want to sync the shots up to a mastered track, then this will do it for you.

May 13, 2010 at 8:39 pmWell what im really Lookin. For is way to watch the clips in the preview with sound. I read somewhere you line up the video and Audio in the timeline and link it then when you click on said file in the browser video you can watch it with sound in the preview window, is any of this making sense? Lol

May 13, 2010 at 10:08 pmDo yo have slates? or people clapping hands? Then find the slate mark on the picture, find it on the audio, and then MERGE CLIPS. This will make a new clip with the audio and video tied. But for this to have worked well, you needed to employ all the tricks of feature film making, like a camera assistant or audio person calling out the scene and take, and then the marker slap…and visually you see the scene and take, and marker clap.
Did you do that? Or just record both sources all willy nilly?

May 13, 2010 at 10:13 pmYes they slated. Where is this merge clips feature? Is it in Fcp 6 or just 7?

May 15, 2010 at 3:15 pmI’m using Plural eyes to synch audio recorded from my EX1 with audio recorded with my Zoom H4n. Pluraleyes did a great job of matching the 2 different audio sources, especially since it was doc situation and the Zoom was hidden on the opposite side of the room.
How do I attach the synched up audio from the EX and Zoom in FCP? Merge is greyed out when I select the 4 audio tracksSony EX1
