Ice/Frost over
I’m looking for a way to animate a freeze over text/graphics to end with an icy look over the object. This is probably something that I will use a lot so handy plugins could also be a great solution. Thanks!

Have you searched the COW for “ice” or “frost”? I seem to remember seeing this asked before …

Yes, all I could seem to find was a link to a frost pattern generator, which isn’t exactly what I’m looking to do. Otherwise searching for ice or frost came up with nothing too relevant. Any guidance in finding it would be much appreciated, too.

Off the top of my head … you could take a layer and apply Fractal Noise to get a pattern. Preompose this layer, then use it as the gradient when you apply the gradient wipe effect to the frost layer. This will make the frost layer appear in a frost-like way.
Now … the frost layer: maybe take a light pale blue solid and draw a mask around it to get the shape, then apply bevel alpha. Make it semi-opaque.
If the frost layer is supposed to be a little bigger than a text layer, dupe the text layer, stroke and fill it white, and enlarge the stroke. Apply bevel alpha, mess with the opacity until it looks right.
If you want, you can apply the roughen edges effect to the frost layer.
