Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy P2/FCP problem

On a recent job I had a Panasonic HVX200 set up with a 64GB P2 card running continuously as an overall shot.

I used P2CMS to download all of the footage from the cards to an external HFS+ formated drive via an Intel Macbook Pro.

I turned over the drive to the client and now the editor is having a problem with a clip from that camera, the most important one of course. I don’t have any editing software at the moment so I can’t test anything out with the backup drive I have.

The clip is about 1:42 long, recorded on one card in 720/30PN. When the editor brings the clip into FCP only about half of the clip can be brought in. The last half of the clip is missing and has the most important footage. He’s tried both log and transfer and file import.

The entire clip is viewable in P2CMS and according to Jan Crittenden from Panasonic if the clip is fully viewable in P2CMS then there’s nothing wrong with the clip and the problem lies with FCP.

Make sure to turn of the ‘remove duplicate frames’ option in the L&T preferences (it looks like a little gear).

That happened to me once too on a spanned clip. After my initial panic I went to the separate “video” and “audio” folders (inside the “contents” folder) and found the file intact. I too had tried everything else. May not be the most professional solution but it worked. Hope this helps.
