Deinterlacing Apple ProRes 422 Proxy and mixing frame rates
Hi everyone, here we go.
So we shot a feature length movie in HD. Some to miniDV, some to disk. Long, sad story short we ended up with most of the footage 1080i60 (1280×1080, 29.97) AND some 1080p24 (1940×1080, 23.98).I am an actor in the film, but I have quite a bit experience in video making, etc., so i said I would help in these final stages. So we have hit several snags as you can guess.
So we have a frame rate issue. Some looks great (60i), then the p24 footage looks choppy, then back to good i60.
AND the every 3rd and 4th frame have the fields showing in the p24.
I’m not sure where it all went wrong, or where it could have been fixed earier but here is where we are:
The final was cut and finished, then sent to color, then returned as individual clips to be aligned back into FCP and they are Apple ProRess 433 Proxy files, both 29.97 and 23.98, like they originally were.
So the whole time the frame rate change has looked bad, AND the interlaced footage looks bad because it is doing the pulldown thing (which I’m learning more and more about, but still quite the amateur) so those two frames are sharing fields which is producing lines. Making sense, I hope.
My question: 1) Can I deinterlace Apple ProRes? I’ve tried several, several ways with no luck. i.e. I used compresser reverse telecine (but of course there are thousands of different options)
2) What is happening??? Why does the 23.98fps footage have the ‘field sharing’ lines? I wish it all looked as smooth at the 29.97. It always seems like the Apple ProRes 422 proxy isn’t interlaced, but instead those fields lines, like this pic I found , https://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/PapaJohn/54/Interlaced-Versus-Progressive_files/image010.jpg are just how those frames look. Could it have been made permanent??I know, I know, many questions, but someone must know what I am talking about.
