reducing a high pitch background noise in post
Hi. I recently shot an interview in a warehouse (shotgun mic on a boom arm just above the subjects head), and in one of the clips I need I can hear a high pitch whistle in the background, probably coming from a machine or a fan. It’s not overwhelming, but it is noticeable. I’m not very familiar with the audio filters in FCP… can someone suggest the best course of action for trying to reduce that noise?

Simple method is to find the frequency by adding a parametric EQ, adjust for for a high Q (notch size- the higher the number the narrower the notch). Add gain and then adjust the frequency up & down until you amplify the noise. The change the gain to reduce the noise.
If it is more complicated, then Sound Track pro has a noise reduction filter that needs a sample of the noise. Izotope and Waves are good plugin tools but they don’t work in FCP. CEDAR is the ultimate in noise removal.
