using HD footage within NTSC
hey guys,
I was wondering if there was a way to work with HD footage within NTSC settings on your sequence. I tried slaping in my HD footage into the NTSC sequence and scaling it up so I could animate pans from still shots without it looking pixelated. When I do this and render it out though, my mov still looks pixelated.
In After Effects when u slap in HD into NTSC its bigger than the comp and not pixelated – then you can animate and so forth in good quality. This is similar to what i want to acomplish in FCP.
Can anyone help me out?

Do it in AE, Motion or Combustion, Smoke on Mac, etc. They’re resolution independent. It’s part of their value.
Non-linear: all the time and nothing but.

When you say NTSC??? do you just mean SD??? HD can be NTSC as is.
The SD sequence in FCP is LowerFields first. Your HD clip is probably upper or none. If you really want/must pan-and-scan a HD clip for SD – do it in AE and import finished render into FCP.
For best quality, capture your HD material with a card like AJA Kona3 and hardware convert to SD on ingest.
Second choice would be to run ur HD clip thru compressor and software convert to your SD needs.
Best yet, Shoot and edit everything in HD.

I mean that my final output settings for the movie will be NTSC settings. But I am using HD footage, that I want to use at HD resolution, which should be bigger than my sequence settings.
I guess this answers my question, that I should just use AE because FCP isnt resolution independent. But I wish i could still do it in FCP because I like editing better in it.
