Computer: macbook pro, i7, 8GB RAM
    Footage: Apple ProRes intermediate), 720p
    Scratch: firewire 800
effects: magic bullet stabilize and looks
When I bought this I didnt expect to never have to render (should have gotten mac pro, need more cores…yeah I know), but I need to stay portable

My question is that when I am “writing files”, ie red bars on timeline to stream the computer is only using 40%-50% of the CPU. Is this a function of firewire vs. Esata? I can drop the resolution in render control to 25% and it speeds up (but does this effect my final render, or does it only deal with real time editing and viewing. Is there a setting in the software or computer?
I have searched these forms and haven’t been able to find information–although I imagine that it is…Thanks in advance.
