When exporting as an MP4
What I am doing is filming with an HVX200 and then editing. Awesome stuff.
I then export Using Quicktime Conversion to an MP4 to get a great looking web video. Everything I have read says that an H.264 MP4 video file is a bazillion times more awesome than an FLV.
Anyways, for whatever reason I am getting “cloudy” results after encoding the movie file. It just seems to screw with the brightness/contrast and I am not getting the same results as I see in FCP.
Also, I haven’t been able to find anything on the “stream” area in terms of totally understanding what is in there … is there any link to help?

H264 is one of the numerous MP4 flavors, but not the one you get when exporting a plain MP4 (.mp4) with QT Conversion.
You have to export a QT movie and set H264 as the codec. You get an .mov.
If you want an H264 as “.mp4”, you can do it with MPGstreamclip (export to MP4).

Try running through Compressor — you’ll get a lot more control over everything, including gamma, color, etc.
Export a reference file: a non-self contained MOV using current settings. Pull that into Compressor. Pick a MP4 with the bit rate you like. Go through and adjust frame size, final bit rate, color and audio controls. Submit it to a cluster that you’ve setup in Qmaster for better speed in rendering. You can also set it up to send it to the web for you, etc.

For H.264/MPEG-4 container, try using the MPEG-4 Export Component in Qt Pro 7xx … File/Export/Movie to MPEG-4.
Here is a snap shot of the settings dialog that I used to help someone else who needed a low data rate Baseline output.

The dreaded “Quicktime gamma bug” that has been identified for several years but not entirely solved. It sucks.
Technically speaking, the gamma bug is due to the use of the +dct8x8 flag in the encode and not erroneous colr nclc atoms in the Quicktime wrapper.
+dct8x8 is DISABLED in main and baseline encoding methods but is ENABLED in high profile settings.
Try FFmpeg.
I found that by using a “high profile” H.264 (in fact, Videolan’s x264 codec), the gamma bug went away. Good original colour in Quicktime with or without the Final cut pro compatibility switch.
Check the FFmpeg forum for an installation guide for Mac. It’s really not that hard.
