Audio Playback in FC – Not Working
I’ve got a good one.
I have captured footage shot on the Sony HDR-FX7. The footage and audio captured fine, and plays back smoothly in the OS. Everything is there. But in Final Cut, the audio is nearly non-existant, and plays back garbled and off the timeline.
I’ve tried capturing on multiple computers, and two different versions of Final Cut – even though it didn’t seem like the problem, have tried capturing with different fire-wire cables, and to different hard drives – all with the same results (i.e. plays fine and clearly in the OS, but the audio is not okay in Final Cut).

I was hoping your second post might contain some info on how you are monitoring. My guess is a phase problem which could be in your monitoring chain or in the camera recording.
Meanwhile, try checking your pan settings on the captured footage. Are the channels panned hard left/ right or centered? If centered try panning left/ right and see if that makes the audio clear. If so then it means that the audio is identical on both tracks but out of phase which cancels the signal although not perfectly as it is mpeg audio off an HDV camera.
Now to determine if the problem is in the camera footage or your system, drop a bit of bars & tone in the timeline and pan the tone to center. Does it cancel (it should cancel perfectly). If yes then there is a problem in your monitoring chain. If not then pull down the audio level on one track.
