I’ve cut a 13 minute show on an XDCAM EX Timeline. For some weird reason, when I try to export it as a reference file, it tells me it will take 4 hours. FOR A REFERENCE FILE! Everything in the timeline is rendered. Any idea why this is happening? Any suggestions? Thanks.

It still needs to conform the video. Just one of the drawbacks of XDCAM & HDV codecs. Chances are that it won’t take nearly that long, even though it says so.

Thanks Chris, is it still only creating a reference file? Or should I just create a self-contained QT file? Will that take much longer?

Yes, still a reference file. It might take a bit longer for a self-contained. I usually export as a self-contained and then use that for archiving.
