I have over 1.25TB of camera original footage. 1TB is XDCam HD and .25TB is XDCam EX. Both shot at 24p. I’ve set my sequence setting to the XDCam EX easy set up (XDCam EX 1080p24 VBR) and then changed the render codec to Apple Pro Res 422. I’m taking for granted that it is better to edit in the better quality format even though there is less EX footage than XDCam HD.

When I drop XDCam HD clips into this sequence, it scales them to 133%. My question is if this is the best workflow if I want image quality as priority, or should I bite the bullet and run the 1TB of XDCam HD footage through Mpeg Streamclip to convert to the EX format prior to editing? Or is there any real difference?

    Thanks,

Hey..Just a suggestion….why don’t you take XDCAM EX footage and run it through MPEG Stream Clip…this way you’ll be scaling down 1920×1080 instead of scaling up 1440×1080…..I dont think you should expect that much of a quality loss…you can try the Apple Pro Res 4444 codec if you have FCS 3..
