morphing/stretching arm?
Posted by Malcolm Desoto on August 21, 2007 at 6:02 pmSo, we’re workin’ with stills here (possibly chroma keyed footage in the future). We have all these arms that are moving around in quick poses. I’d like to stretch some of the arms…like they’re ooze or something. The fist or hand should remain the same while the fore arm stretches and bends like rubber. Any ideas on how to do this? Something in the morph tool?

August 21, 2007 at 6:11 pmMaybe something similar to the effect in Rubber Johnny by Aphex Twin. Jump foward to some where around 2:00 min.

August 21, 2007 at 9:33 pmThe only way I can think to do it would be…Take your footage and duplicate it make cut outs arounds the arma and have one footage be just the arms and the other be without arms. Then play and stretch the arms part….2 track the motion of the arms in the shot and use the liquify tool. Head over to videocopilot.net and check out Andrew Kramer’s demon face tutorial. Essentially it would work the same way for arms instead of a face.

August 22, 2007 at 12:05 amIf you’re using CS3 you might also try the Puppet tool. Since you’re working with still as far as i understand you will only need to fake the alpha channel which puppet tool operates on.
this would be more complex if the footage was a video file, but i think that there would be a way of doing that.
good luck.
