  • Unable to add Disolve with widescreen effect?

Posted by Michael Ford on March 27, 2010 at 7:18 pm

    Hi

I have added a dissolve to a clip with widescreen. When not playing it shows the clip fading if I scroll frame by frame but doesn’t when i play it.

I have tried removing the clip and re adding, rendering, dissolving before adding widescreen. all i can do is keyframe it to change opacity every time. it isn’t a big problem for one or 2 clips but when i have several it can get a bit frustrating.

    Can anybody help. Thanks

    Mike

Yes, are you adding a matt over a 4:3 image to make it look as if it’s a 16:9 image?

Non-linear: all the time and nothing but.

sorry yes i should have explained more clearly. it was shot in 16:9 but need it cropped more so i added the widescreen matte but cannot get a dissolve to work with it.

I just tried the same thing here on my system and it works for me. But doesn’t help you… When you say you rendered it, did the computer actually really took some time to render it? I always render using alt-r, that renders everything in the timeline, plus, I check all the possible render options in the render all menu. You go to sequence->render all-> check everything thing. I hope this works for you.

    Hi
Just had the same issue. Dissolves work when you scrub frame by frame but not when played.
The solution for me was to go into sequence – render all and make sure preview and full have ticks next to them. Do a full render. You will see the render bar at the top of the timeline above the dissolves change from green to a blue/grey colour. Hit play and it should work.

Just for note Im using FCP 7 with apple pro res 422. Sequence 1920 x 1080i HDTV. Footage shot on Canon C300.

    Chris.
