  Capturing Real Time via firewire to Apple Pro Res 422

  Hello,
  I posted the post below a couple of days ago and I was given the suggestion to choose “uncontrollable device” in my settings. This did not resolve the problem. does anyone have any other suggestions?

  Hi,
  I’ve been trying to capture video real time from my CAnon Vixia HV30 via firewire into my Mac Pro with Final Cut Pro 6.06 . A screen appears that asks me to name the clip, I name it and then the screen appears with an image from my camera and then dissappears quickly saying that my tape has come to an end. I am not using a tape and desire to capture directly to Apple Pro Res 422. Is this possible.
  It doesn’t work with any other Capture preset other than HDV.
  Is this a problem with my software or am I just trying to do something that it cannot do yet?

  You can capture HDV to ProRes on the fly from a tape, but not from the camera in realtime.

  The HDV to ProRes method via firewire doesn’t actually happen in realtime, you see a slight delay during the process and FCP warns you not to stop the playback until the transcode to ProRes is completed. Thus, your attempt to do the same thing in realtime without tape can’t work.

  I’m not sure if this is what you need, but checkout this tutorial by Chris Poisson on HDV to ProRes capture.

  I used a Sony HDV 1080i and want to capture the foottage into Final Cut Pro. At first it sort of worked and captured 10 minutes at a time, then it would start to freeze up more and more, sooner and sooner. Now I can only capture a max of 2 minutes at a time and even then there is a 50-80% delay in that. `What can I do to fix this?
  I would like to capture the footage of 6 hours of HD mini DV tapes onto an external harddrive.
