    Hi,

I want to create a media managed (copied) sequence in FCP v7.0.1, but just copying the Audio and not the Video from the source quicktime files.

I have deleted all the video from the sequence, but the FCP’s estimated resulting size suggest that it will also copy the video.

Does anyone know how I could accomplish this?

    Thanks

FCP defaults to capturing audio and video as one file. It cannot split this file. But in the system prefs you can set FCP to capture audio and video seprately. Do that and you can MM them separately.

    Thanks for the reply,

Unfortunately all the media (nearly 1000 hours!) from a variety of formats including tape & tapeless, has already been ingested.

We are trying to make a OMF, but the audio guys are saying that they are getting the audio from the whole clip and not just the 4sec handles we are specifying.

So I had the idea of media managing the sequence, then creating the OMF from that. The reason I didn’t want to media manage the video, was there will be a very tight turnaround from picture lock to OMF delivery, and I’m not sure there will be time to copy all the un-needed video (its a 59min show).

So back to the drawing board, unless anyone has any other ideas?

[Martin Williams-Peck] “We are trying to make a OMF, but the audio guys are saying that they are getting the audio from the whole clip and not just the 4sec handles we are specifying. “

That shouldn’t be happening. Because OMF’s have a 2GB limit, I doubt that they’d be getting the FULL audio from every clip. If the regular OMF isn’t working, then you might have to look at Automatic Duck Pro Export. When mixing media like this, stuff can happen. The DUCK is SOLID.

OK, do that. Media manage the video too, that’s fine. Make SURE that every clip has a REEL number. If not, then MM cannot extract just the part the sequence uses….Hey! I bet that’s why the OMF isn’t working! Do ALL your clips have reel numbers?

The first programme we did from the series, we had to split the sequence into 2 OMF’s of nearly 2 gig each, so there is a lot of audio going into the OMF (only 8 tracks in the sequence).

All media except for music (which we want the whole file anyway in the OMF), should have reel numbers (but I will check this with the assistants).

Looks like its going to have to be a media manage with video, or the duck!

Its odd we have created loads of OMF’s before, and had no reported problems,

    Thanks again for your help
