  • FCS 2 won’t install after uninstalling FCS 3

Posted by Whitney Dunn on March 9, 2010 at 9:25 pm

    Hi,

I had FCS 3 but needed to downgrade back to 2 for a project. I did a complete uninstall using the FCS Remover and have check the receipts folder and all other folders from every google search alive 🙂 The computer is clean of all Final Cut files but when I put the disc in to install, Final Cut and some other program are greyed out and display a skip and will not install. Anyone have this issue or know what to do? I’ve tried everything.

    Thanks!

Standard recommendation here is to do clean OS & FCS installs. If that means buying a new system drive, then that is going to be safer and most likely cheaper in the long run.

If you had done the FCS3 install that way, you would simply swap out your system drive and be back on a stable version of FCS2 right now.

There may be issues with the fact that FCS3 would have installed Quicktime X which FCS2 won’t understand. Rather than muck around trying to work out why at this stage, I would still go and buy a new drive and do a clean OS & FCS2 install. Meanwhile do the same with the other drive and put FCS3 on so when you want to move back to FCS3 it is just a drive swap.

Ahh Quicktime. That’s probably it. Don’t have time or the patience to do an OS. I have so many other programs that would get wiped away. Leave it to Apple to make you buy more stuff. Grr. Oh well.

    Thanks!

Whitney, can you please open up the Terminal and type “ls /Library/Receipts” (without quotes) and then paste the information it produces here. It looks like a framework is being left behind, which is strange because I can’t replicate the issue on my computer. FCS2 reinstalls just fine after removing FCS3.
