  • Weird gamma shift when converting Canon H264 to ProRes

Posted by Chris Tomkins on March 9, 2010 at 1:59 pm

    Hi

I’ve just shot a bunch of HD footage on the 7D and am converting the camera files to ProRes Progressive with compressor.

However, I am experiencing this weird random instantaneous gamma shift (at least, I think its a gamma shift).

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions.

To see what I mean, I uploaded a sample of the original camera clip next to the ProRes compressed clip… Watch the blacks…

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers
    Chris

    It really jumps.
    How you did the conversion?
You may try with another application.

I use MPEG streamclip and have had great results.

I used Compressor, but I’ll try streamclip and see if it makes any difference.

Tried MPEG Streamclip and everything seems fine. No idea what Compressor was doing to it.

I guess I’ll just go with MPEG Streamclip from now on.
