Crisp text imported from Photoshop
I have been trying to import text for a spot from Photoshop but the text is not coming in crisp. I am working in Photoshop with a composition of 640X480 with a resolution of 200 pixels Color mode RGB 8 Bit. What am I doing wrong? How can I get nice text for my FCP project? Should I be using Illustrator instead, I am not good in the program that’s why I don’t use it.

Two important considerations. Firstly what are your sequence settings in FCP. Choice of frame size and codec used can make a big different.
Secondly what aspect ratio are you using. You graphics are smaller than most standard def frame sizes and your aspect is 4:3.
If your text is simple, try the built in Boris text tools in FCP. Photoshop may be overkill.

my sequence settings are frame size 720 X 480 NTSC DV 3:2
PIXEL RATIO is NTSC CCIR 601 / DV 720 X 480
Field Dominance is LOWER (EVEN)
Even in photoshop it doesnt look clean. What can it be? -

Your Photoshop frame size doesn’t match. Also I’m guessing your pixel ratio is square when it should be rectangle.
In Photoshop:
Go to File -> New ->
Use the NTSC DV 720×480 (with Guides) Preset.

Nicholas, I did what you said but I get a message box saying.
“Aspect ration correction is for preview purposes only. Turn it off for maximum image quality” Also I dont have rectangle as a pixel option only square and other wide screen or anamorphic options. Which should I choose?Thank you

If you use the NTSC DV 720×480 (with Guides) Preset you are using a rectangle pixel.
Photoshop refers to this as a pixel aspect ratio of DV1/DV NTSC 0.9
Which is a fancy way of saying you are using a rectangle pixel.
The message on the screen is reminding you that you are working in a non-native pixel ratio on a computer screen. Computers use square pixels.
DV video uses rectangle pixels.If you create your graphics and bring them into Final Cut Pro you should have no issues.
If you not familiar with Photoshop you can always use the text generator in Final Cut Pro instead.

Once you have the text matching the correct pixel aspect, take your final timeline and render it out as either 10 bit uncompressed or ProRes in that same pixel size to get a better result.
DV codec always makes text blocky. It is a compression that does poorly on hard lines and real edges.
