  Attach 5.1 AC3 to Compressor Blu-ray Post Action?

  Has anyone figured out how to create a Blu-ray or DVD with a 5.1 AC3 file using the Compressor burn post action? I can’t find any documentation on this.

  Russell,

  I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “burn post action,” however, if you click on my head you will find that one of my articles from several years back deals with authoring 5.1 DVDs in FCS. It’s not my best article ever, but maybe it will help. Let me know…

  Thanks for the reply David.

  In the new Compressor, it can add a post action to a compression job. For example, if you compress a file, then when it’s done, Compressor will burn a DVD or Blu-ray of that file. I’ve successfully done this and it’s quite slick.

  I’ve also created 5.1 files using the add surround sound tab. What I haven’t figured out yet is how to combine a surround AC3 file with the video post action to burn a Blu-ray or DVD.

  I’ll keep playing around.

  I suspect that you will need a basic authoring software package after Compressor to combine ac3 5.1 tracks to your mpeg file. This is likely because you will need to be able to encode the option to select the 5.1 as an audio option as I would be surprised if it was a default.

  A muxed audio with the mpeg file is another matter, but the 5.1 stream needs to be syncronised and that sounds like a job for authoring software.

  Hello,

  Sorry I’m french, so please do not to notice my language’s mistakes…

  Well then, I think I’ve found a solution for this problem, in order to avoid any kind of muxed audio, which is more appropriate for VOD.

  My solution is quite simple :
  You open FCP, import your video file and your audio files in your navigator.
  Then you put you video into the timeline of a new sequence, then the audio. Check that both files are synchronised.
  Once it’s done, you just have to click with the right-button of your mouse on the file sequence in your nagivator >> send to >> Compressor.

  In Compressor, use the setting “H.264 for Blu-Ray” (to encode the video), and the setting “Dolby Digital Professional 5.1” to encode your audio.
  In “Job Action”, select “Create a Blu-Ray” instead of “Do Nothing”, choose your menu.

  Submit !
