    My AE project is getting quite large with many layers. AE is slowing down alot and making all the menus white while it updates. Is there a way around this?

    You may want to consider precomposing sections and rendering out “proxies” for those precomps.

    maybe turn off live update as well. But yeah proxies will help the most. And switch off motion blur and any other complex effects until you render your final movie.

    are you working at full res?

    try dropping down to half to speed things up a bit and then go back to full when you need to
