16 Audio Tracks ‘by mistake’!!!
Hi,
I’m working on a job and it turns out the digitisers have somehow accidentally captured 16 tracks of audio instead of 4. My footage has all been taken in as whole tapes. Is there any way I can get rid of the excess 12 tracks other than to make a sequence, remove the 12 tracks, and then cut from the 4 audio track sequence?
I don’t like the thought of having to cut everything from seqs rather than master clips. Plus there will be other people working on this project at some point and I can foresee problems further down the line with people continually double clicking, and then cutting into the wrong sequence etc…

Open the clips with QT and go to the Movie Properties (Com-J).
Select and delete the tracks that you want.

Thanks Rafael you are a life saver! I can feel a weight lifting off my shoulders…
We are running Quicktime 10 here which has none of the features of Pro but I’m sure it won’t take me long to get Pro up and running and get this sorted out.

Sounds like you’re working with an AJA Kona 3 board. This can capture 16 channels of audio during ingest.
When you do your Log and Capture, your folks need to look at the Capture Settings as 16 active channels is the default setting. What FCP does is look at how many tracks are available for input and it will automatically turn on all available tracks for ingest. So your editors need to ensure they turn off the extra tracks before ingest.
FCP will remember your settings until you switch off to something else like Firewire ingest and then back to the Kona for ingest.

Yes, as Walter points, you can duplicate and edit the AJA Easy Setups and set the number of audio channels up to the footage you are capturing.

You should install QT 7. It’s included on the Snow Leopard disk ad an optional install. This restores your pro features if you use Quicktime Player 7.x.
