  29.97 sequence to 59.94

  I am working with a sequence in an online session that was delivered to me in 720 29.97 with XDCAM footage at 23.98 and Prores footage at 29.97. Final delivery is Digibeta 29.97.

  Everything plays fine in the sequence, but the final credit scroll looked very jittery. If I change the settings to 59.94 the scroll looks fine but the timings for everything else are totally off.

  To change from 29.97 to 59.94 I created a new sequence and copied and pasted from old to new. Now all the cuts are half as long as they should be (makes sense if they were playing back at 30 frames and now are played at 60). My 23 minute show is now 12 minutes long and obviously audio does not sync.

  My one option is to adjust the timing of just what the credit scroll is over and do an insert after the main output but I would like to find a way to make it work so that everything is at 59.94 as this is the first of 13 shows that need finishing.

  Anyone know of a way to change to 59.94 and keep the shots at the correct timings?

  Don’t mix frame rates in FCP on the sequence level. That is just plain a BAD idea. FCP does a HORRIBLE job of adding/removing pulldown…it’s sick! You must convert all the footage to a uniform frame rate before you add them to the timeline.

  And I have never seen happen what you say is happening. That pasting a 23.98 12-min clip into a 59.94 sequence is making it 6 min, or less. Just not behavior I have ever witnessed. And yes, I have done it.

  Thanks Shane. I exported a self contained QT and placed it into the 59.94 sequence. The timings seem to be correct. I think I will continue with the 29.97 timeline for the majority of the episode and use this method simply for the credit bed and scroll. Much less confusing when having to do timings with producers and if anything has to be changed I won’t have to keep remaking the long self contained QT.
