    Hi…

I have some strange behaviours going on with PAL standard def.

I set up a standard sequence.

    Sequence Settings>Load Sequence Preset>Uncompressed 10-bit Pal 48kHz

    Then I mark Anamorphic…

Now when I finish editing and export using QT-movie>Current Settings
I get a QT-movie that shows 720×576 in the finder info
I get the same dimensions when I reimport the footage in FCP
But when I open the clip in QT 7.6.3 (the QT before QT 10.0) and choose Properties>Video Track>Visual Settings the movie now has the following dimensions

    normal size: 1048.8 x 576 pixels
    display size 1048 x 576 pixels

Also the movie when opened in qt about the anamorphic ratio and not 4×3

The same thing happens when i use the Kona Uncompressed Pal preset

Can anybody explain me what is happening here…

    FCP 7.0.1
    QT 10.0
    Kona 3
    Mac OS 10.6.2

That’s great, at least QT is able to display properly some codecs when Anamorphic..
1024×576 Square pixels is the same frame that 720×576 PAL Anamotrphic pixels.
Your computer have Square pixels, so QT must do this operation to display the picture.
Is the size you should set if you want to upload your movie full size to internet.

    Hi Rafael..

    Thanks for the reply…

I know that with square pixels the dimensions are 1024×576..
But QT doesn’t show 1024 but 1044 pixels by 576
    And not even 1044 but 1044.8 pixels…
    That’s what I found odd…

Before I always got a QT movie with the dimensions 720×576 when I open in QT (visual settings)
and the movie is then squeezed…. (showing not anamorphic pixel)
Now the movie is not squeezed and has the dimensions 1044×576..

This happens on my set that has fcp 7.0.1
My other set which still runs fcp 6.0.6 on a quad core PPC
and I use the same settings and procedure ends up with a QT movie 720×576

Hope anybody can clear this up for me

    Hi Maurik,
The default behave of QT is to display things with Square pixels (no 4×3).
I guess that in this case QT is display Anamorphic, because you are using an AJA codec. Same happens with BM codec, but no with Apple.
Why QT display 1.044 instead of 1.024?
No idea, but I wouldn’t care much about the precision of QT player. QT have problems to display the proper TC, and some times even the proper time base.
I wouldn’t waist much time looking for the reason unless this was affecting my workflow and product.
In the end only you know about these extra pixels.
    Cheers,
    rafael
