Alternative for Tascam FW-1082 control surface?
I just discovered that my two-year-old (young!) Tascam FW-1082 control surface for mixing audio in FCP (amongst others) is no longer compatible with Snow Leopard or systems with more than 4GB of RAM #TascamFail!

So… I’ll be selling it, but am looking for a replacement. The FW-1082 was a little overkill for me, I really only used it for mixing audio in the timeline in FCP. So any suggestions for a (simpler?) replacement very welcome.

if you are looking for something simpler you could use the Alphatrack of Frontier Design. It’s a pretty basic controller but works with Snow Leopard and FCP 7 and for simple editing it’s sufficient

Maybe the Behringer BCF2000 would be enough for you, though I’ve heard past reports (that may be long out dated) that the motorized faders were a little noisy:

@Jaap: The Alphatrack looks innovative, but I really like using all my fingers for mixing multiple tracks simultaneously – so not really an option for me. Do you have it yourself?
@Andy: Yep, the Behringer BCF2000 is the one I am looking into right now. It’s so cheap – especially compared to the Euphonix which I find majorly overpriced if you compare to the Tascam.
When you say “noisy faders”, noisy in what way? Physically noisy as in clicking into position etc? Squeaky?

yes I do have a Alphatrack myself. For basis editing in FCP it works fine for me. And I can take it with me when working with a laptop.
But I am also looking for a controller with multiple faders to do more complex level control. The Euphonix to me seems the right choice. It’s not too big and made for FCP -
Reviving this old thread with good news. The Tascam FW-1082 now works great on Snow Leopard running FCS3. Tascam released a new driver that did the trick!

Thanks for reviving the thread with what sounds like good news (were it not that I’ve already sold my FW-1082! 🙁 ).
A question: does the FW-1082 work as it did on earlier versions of OSX? (i.e. touch-sensitive faders in FCP etc?). And how much RAM do you have in your computer? Tascam told me the FW-1082 will only work on computers with max. 4GB RAM (I have 12GB and am not going to downgrade ;-)).
