  .mov file taking ages to render

  Hi all,

  I’m new to the forum. I’ve got some .mov files that I’ve imported into a FCP project. The clips are only a few minutes but when I place them on the timeline and render they’re taking up to 2 hours! I’ve abandoned ship ’cause something must be wrong.

  I have a macbook pro with FCP 5.0.1 and the movie is all on an external Lacie hard drive with plenty of space.

  Has anyone got any suggestions what the problem might be and ideas to overcome?

  What codec are these .MOV files? Quicktime is a container that can be one of a few dozen codecs. And not all of them are edit formats. You need to convert this QT .mov to a format that FCP edits. Using MPEG STREAMCLIP to do this is the best way (It is free). Convert to DV/NTSC and away you go.

  DV/NTSC is one of many options but may not be the most approriate. What is the original codec and frame rate of the .mov files?
