I’ve been given footage on a hard drive. Half the footage was in the P2 file structure, which I was able to transfer. The other half is in the AVID DV100 Codec, which I’m assuming is DVCPro HD that was captured on an AVID.

Is there anything I can do to convert these AVID DV100 Codec files into .mov files that FCP likes or am I going to have to take this to a post house and have them do something?

    Thanks

You can download an avid codec pack. Are they in mxf format?

hmm…im not sure if they are mxf format. I’m at work right now and I haven’t looked at the drive for a few weeks…I focused on transferring the P2 footage first.

I saw Avid downloads when I searched for a solution on Google, but they were all for Windows. I’ll take a look specifically at their site.

Will having these codecs allow me to open them in FCP, or do they allow me to open them in QT Player so I can export them as .mov?

    Thanks for your help

[Rob Grauert] “Will having these codecs allow me to open them in FCP,”

Depends on what format you have. Do you have .mov or MXF files?

You can download Avid codecs for OSX too.

I’ll have to get back to you in the format when I get home from work tonight. I’m just not sure off the top of my head.

    Thanks!

    Hey Jeremy,

I just got home and checked these files. I believe they are Quicktime files. So I guess that means I have to download an Avid codec for Quicktime?

    Yeppers. Exactly right.
