• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  AJA Kona files need conversion

  A client just delivered a whole drive full of AJA Kona 10-Bit RGB files thinking he was preserving the best quality video- probably was, but seeing how we don’t have a Kona card, the files are seemingly useless…
  That is, unless some kind person here knows how I can convert these files to proRES HQ or some other format so I can use them in Final Cut Pro.

  I’m working on a 2×2.66 ghz intel MacPro with FCP 7.

  For the record, both Kona and Blackmagic use the Apple 8 and 10-bit codecs and have for nearly three years now. So, you should only need to have Quicktime installed on your computer in order to use the files that were sent to you. However, as Luke mentioned, you can install the Kona codecs without one of their cards or other devices.

  I thought it was just the 4:2:2 uncompressed YUV codecs that were already installed?

  Nope- sorry David you missed the RGB in his note, those are only available form AJA.

  Yes the standard 10bit UC codecs are Apple’s, but the RGB are Aja’s

  Wow- you guys are awesome and know so much about codecs! I knew I’d find the answer+more here… The codec download worked great and I can now convert the files to ProRES..
