Jpeg still in final cut
Hey there
I’ve tried searching the forums for a straight answer to this question but have so far been unsuccessful in implementing any of the advice.
I have a large format Jpeg(1698×1131) which I have changed the resolution to 72 pixels and the format of my final cut pro project.
The Final Cut project is DVCPRO50 NTSC, aspect NTSC CCIR601.
So I made a short after effects project with the same settings where the camera pans up the photo and then some text animates. Exported a QT of it, same settings as my final cut project. The quality looks better in the viewer than in the canvas which makes me think something is going wrong in the project settings, though can’t figure out where it is.
The colors also look washed out, the original photo was CMKY and I changed it to Apple RGB because I read somewhere on where thats the better choice for final cut.I have rendered and tried exporting just that section of the clip to see how it looks with no luck. I did read somehwere that QT is iffy when it comes to DV footage though.
Anyways, I’ve been trying to figure this out for days so any help would be appreciated.

hmm. I always tell people they should be judging the quality of their image by looking at an external broadcast monitor (or a TV at worst) and it should be calibrated with color bars. Are you doing this? Even if you output from FCP via firewire to a small video camera and then connect the camera to a TV via S-video…that is better than nothing.
Also, if you are working in a DV timeline, such as DVCPro50, I believe your files from After Effects are exposed to a lot of compression. So the viewer will be displaying my raw video, but once dropped into the timeline, the video is being compressed to whatever your timeline compressor is set to. Have you tried setting your timeline compressor to ProRes (not ProResHQ)? That’s just a guess…I’m not positive that will solve the issue, but It’s worth a try.

Also, what codec are you exporting out of After Effects. Try the Animation codec if you haven’t already done so.
