  • FCP wont let me save my project!

I’ve been working on this project for over a month and never had this problem.

I believe for the first hour of editing today i didn’t have the problem either. within the last hour I am not able to save my project to my drive, scratch media, or the desktop.

I have 2 projects open and can’t save either one to my drive. I am able to save other files including a photoshop file.

Whats going on hear! I’d like to keep editing, and I’m afraid to close FCP and loose a few hours of work that I did today!

    thanks!!

When I have this problem Im usually able to save a copy of the project to
a different drive. Like an external drive if the project is located internally
or vice versa. Not the desktop.
Then I move it back to it’s original location after restarting.

The error message I get is “operation not allowed.” I’ve tried renaming and saving and saving to different drives and the desktop. Still no luck!!

    What can I do?!

Can you export an XML of the project?

Try making a new, empty project. Copy just your current timeline into it. Then try to “save as..” Might work. Failing that, try the same thing, but copy the contents of your timeline into a new, empty timeline in the new project, then try saving.

FCP crashed in the middle of the copy process on my side… c’est la vie, I didn’t lose too much work.

Out of curiosity: if I copied my sequence out to a new project, saved it, then moved it back to the original, what effect would this have on exporting an edl, if any?
