  10-bit RGB import and export

  I’m using After Effects specifically to stabilize and dust bust HD footage with the ‘clone stamp’ tool. The files are 10-bit RGB uncompressed. If the project setting was set to 8-bit, will the 10-bit RGB output be compromised in any way? If so, would you recommend using the 16-bit, or 32-bit project setting? (As stated, the only effects being used are stabilization and clone stamp.)

  The file extensions are .mov (Apple Quicktime). They haven’t been rendered in FCP, so should have been full 10-bit RGB on input to After Effects. I wanted to know if they’ve retained their full 10-bit range on output from AE, or if they’ve been truncated by the fact that the project settings were 8-bit.

  Hi if they were rendered from AE in 8 bit, you have definitely lost fidelity, but all you need to do is set the project to 16 bit and
  re-render.
