Help! Problem with Final Cut playback.
Basically, I’ve been playing around with a camera over christmas, and I’ve started putting some of the clips I shot into an edit on FCP.
The problem is that whenever I add effects (Magic Bullet Looks) to a clip and render my timeline out, or if I export my video, all the shots change completely.
They all occupy the same places in the timeline in the same order, it’s just the clips themselves are different. It’s as if they’ve been offset in the rushes by about 6 seconds.
e.g. If i have a clip of a cat or something, and then render that out, the clip would change to whatever was 6 seconds (approx) previous in the raw rushes..I think it may have something to do with dropped frames.
Does anyone have any ideas of what’s going on? Or better yet, does anyone have a solution?

You’ll have to tell us what type of video file the camera creates you’re trying to edit. If the camera creates MP4 files you will need to transcode them to ProRes for editing.

I’ve been shooting on a Panasonic DVX100b if that’s any help. -
This now sounds like a simple problem that can be cured by simply trashing preferences.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean by ‘trashing preferences’, I’m still pretty new to FCP.
Can you please enlighten me?

To trash preferences:
1. Go to your Home directory then inside it to: Library > Preferences
2. Drag com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist to the trash
3. Scroll down to the Final Cut Pro User Data folder
4. Drag Final Cut Pro Prefs to the trash
5. Drag Final Cut Pro Obj Cache to the trash
6. Drag Final Cut Pro Prof Cache to the trash
7. Empty the trashHope that helps. Happy Holidays

An easier way than the manual method that Greg expertly outlined is to download Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion. It allows simple trashing of preferences as well as the ability to save multiple sets of custom preferences for projects created with different formats or on different hard drives, etc. It can be a very powerful tool, and it’s free.

Very interesting. As I understand what you (and the online manual) are saying:
If I have to edit various FCP projects, e.g. one in which I’m capturing analog tapes in SD, and another in which I’m using XDCAM files and outputting HD, I can use Preference Manager, save the preferences for each individual project, and then I will not have to re-tune FCP each time I open a particular project.
1. Is my understanding basically correct?
2. Why isn’t this behavior already part of FCP?
