  animation flash – after effects – final cut pro

  Hi,

  Im trying to get the right import / export settings for creating an animation at the best possible quality with what I have. I can’t find any post / forum that covers the whole pipeline from flash to fcp.

  I’m running;

  Mac OSX 10.5.8 – 2 X 2.8 Quad – 2GB Ram – Final Cut Pro 6.0.6 – Adobe Flash CS4 After Effects CS3

  How I import export;

  Flash export – Png Sequence 720 x 576 – Is it better to export 1440 x 1080?

  Import Png Sequence in After Effects

  Then to export from after effects I click make movie and don’t change any settings

  In final cut pro I have it set to;

  easy set up DV Pal
  I tick anamorphic 16;9 in the sequence settings

  Then I export the edit using quicktime conversion
  Settings >no compression with all highest possible settings
  Size>pal 720 x 576 16:9

  I  would like to end up with a final animation that is broadcast quality for the uk. Thanks for any help in advance!

  That’s very vague. What’s your final deliverable? Your FCP project should be set to that spec, and your Flash project should match it.

  You need to think about your final deliverable’s best possible codec. If you don’t know what that is, find out. You need to know the frame rate, pixel dimensions, and preferred delivery specifications for the format.

DV is about 800x500 pixels, roughly. If you go anamorphic, you don't gain any pixels. So if you import a 1440 image you have to scale it down to fit which is a waste of everything. bogiesan

  Hi Guys,

  I don’t have a specific client, i want to get the best quality animation which can then give me the option of compressing for dvd, web or straight to broadcast.

  I’ve found these specs for the bbc but i don’t understand how they relate to FCP settings. I think the job of finding out what broadcast settings are for the uk in fcp are too big to cover on this site

  All signals and recordings supplied shall be of the 625/50 interlaced standard

  Composite material shall meet PAL System I in all aspects of timing, frequency response and
  bandwidths.

  Preferred line-up signals are given under 4.2.3 for recordings and 9.1 for direct feeds.

  Digitally delivered pictures are considered to have a nominal active width of 702 pixels (52us)
  starting on the 10th pixel and ending on the 711th pixel in a standard REC 601 (720 sample)
  width. A minimum width of 699 pixels (51.75us) within these limits must be achieved.
  Additional active pixels outside the above limits must be an extension of the main picture.

  Vertical Blanking must not exceed 26 lines per field.

  Line 23 may contain a whole line of picture, be totally blanked, or the last half may contain
  picture relevant to programme. Line 23 must not contain any form of signalling as it is likely to
  appear in picture during letterbox style presentation.

  Likewise picture content in line 623 is also optional, but if present it must be related to the
  programme.
