  Hi I have captured Digi Beta footage to Uncompressed 10bit. I have some DVcam footage captured to DVCpro50. When I try to convert the uncopressed footage to DVCpro 50 it plays fine in the timeline. But motion is all jerky on external monitor and when I done a quick DVD test it is the same.

  I know this is something to do with the Digi Footage is Upper field and the DVCPro footage is Lower. How do I go about altering the settings to make the Uncompressed lower to match the other footage?

  Need help urgently!!!

  Hi John,
  In NTSC-land DV and 8/10b Unc are both Lower first.
  In PAL-land DV is Lower first too, but 8/10b Unc are Upper first.
  So if you are in PAL land you need to apply a Shift-fields to one or the other footage if you want to mix it.

  Assuming you’re in NTSC land, here’s the problem:

  Even though both of your sources are lower field first, they are different dimensions. DigitBeta is D1, which is 720×486. DVCPRO is 720×480. When you drop a D1 file in a DVCPRO 50 timeline, FCP is supposed to recognize this and shift the D1 clip up or down one pixel. If it’s not doing it, and the D1 clip is centered (with 3 pixels above and below the top and bottom edge), then your field order has suddenly become reversed. You can fix this by moving the clip up or down one pixel in the motion tab of the viewer, or you can apply the shift fields filter.

  I agree. Whenever I’m questioning whether I’ve got a field issue I drop the shift fields filter on the clip.
