  5D2 slow motion in FCP7

  Hi, there!

  I shoot with and EX1 and 5D2 and use a lot of slow motion.

  I convert the 5D2 footage to XDCAM EX 1080i60 29.97fpc to edit together with the EX1 footage.

  Everything works great, but when I slow down the 5D2 clips they are very stroby. What’s even more puzzling is that they look great unrendered, but as soon I render them the slow motion gets jerky.

  Has anyone run into this problem before and/or know the solution?

  I tried doing in motion, I tried converting to ProRes, I tried just editing on an H.264 timeline. Always the same problem.

  Please help!

  Convert it to ProRes and work in a ProRes Timeline. Also look into Optical Flow speed effects in Motion.

  I have heard opinion about the weakness of the Canon having a rolling shutter. Perhaps that is contributing.

  Are you judging the image on an external monitor and if so what sort of I/O card do you use. A lot of times th issue is monitoring in FCP which is not full res.

  On a practical note, why shoot progressive if you do a lot of slow mo? I would have thought that would be a case for interlaced as it has more motion information.
