    Hi guys,

I’ve always struggled with exporting HD from Final Cut Pro. Using version 6.0.6 Academic and for don’t have the keycode to compresser, so have to use quicktime.

I shot on Panasonic HPX500 in 720/25p HD and it’s a 10 minute short film with lots of visual effects and short edits, including 15 audio tracks.

When exporting I use the following settings:

    Quicktime Conversion
    H.264
    Frame Rate: Current
    Key Frames: Automatic
    Data Rate: 6000 kbits/sec
    Encoding: Best Quality (Multi-pass)

    Custom Dimensions: 1280 x 720
Unchecked Deinterlace & Unchecked Preserve aspect ratio (change?)

My HD film still comes out as grainy and certainly not HD. Can anybody offer me any suggestions?

    B

Are you trying to make an QT file? HD DVD? Or a BluRay disk? Or a standard DVD that will play on a regular DVD player. If a standard DVD, then you cannot export in the manner that you are. You simply need to export a QT movie, either reference or self contained, using the sequence settings. then take that into Compressor and use the DVD Presets, then take the resulting files into DVD Studio pro.

UH, why not? The SN that comes with the entire studio package is for all the components. If you have that then you have the passcode to Compressor.

The ONLY DVD format that is H.264 is BluRay, and you need special software and DVD Burners to make that, unless you have FCP 7.

Hi Shane, thanks for getting back to me!

I got just FCP from my uni tutor with serial, I got compressor with it but the serial for academic has never worked with Compressor. I’ll speak to him about it.

I’ll need to burn it to a standard DVD, but would buy a HD DVD if it will up the quality that much. Surely it shouldn’t be grainy if exported correctly when shot in HD anyway…

Exporting a QT movie now under the current settings as self-contained, I’ll see how that pans out.

    Thanks Shane.
