Capture makes a new clip at each HDV camera start/stop
I finished editing my 60-minute doc film. Yaaay!
My first edit machine was 5 years old, so since the start I downconverted from my Sony HVR-Z1u to DV and edited the whole thing 4:3 SD. Since most of the footage was shot in HDV and XDCAM HD, I will now up-convert the project by recapturing here on this new machine. I know there will be a lot of tweaking, but I am hoping much can be automatic based on matching timecode.
I have the original FCP project and I changed all the settings to HDV. That’s fine. When capturing my HDV B-roll clips, however, FCP makes a new damn clip with every start/stop of the original camera shoot! I have that “make new clip on timecode break” feature turned off, but there’s no timecode breaks anyway. I originally captured my B-Roll in large chunks, and simply used FCP markers in the clips to organize them. This is a big pain, and I want to avoid re-editing the piece from scratch.
HOW do I turn this multi-clip feature of HDV capture OFF? Is it tied to the LongGOP nature of the HDV format? Am I screwed here?

Firstly did you use Media Manager to create an offline version, changing the codec to HDV and then deleting all unused media with handles?
If not then you are going to be recapturing far too much and crossing camera stop starts. This will drive you nuts and is unnecessary.
Firstly, there is a tab setting in the log & capture window with a check box for making a new clip on camera stop starts. Turn that off, but seriously consider your workflow and the need to Media Manage before recapture.

I am having the same problem, well as far as capturing in HDV. As he said Michael he has turned off the “create new on start/stop” as have I, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I have ended up renting the deck for another day, which is not great for my bank statement. I know i can capture in DV Pal and the problem of breaking up the tape during capture won’t occur because it isn’t a feature of standard DV. But I want my project to be in HD as it is Wildlife that I shot and the picture quality means everything.
Desperately looking for more help than uncheck the “create new on start/stop” as I say I have done this and it makes no difference. How? I don’t know.
