Compressor problem ( no settings )
The problem started ( admittedly my fault ) because i wanted to edit the same clip on 2 computers.
In the process some of the capture files ended up in the wrong places. FCP did’nt seem to have a problem when I reconnected the media.Compressor however,signaled an alert ” Unable to access source media”
…. and from this point the BIG problem begins: compressors settings ( MPEG, dolby ,etc ) disappear, e.g: on the icon that used to say MPEG2 there is unintelligible scrawl.
I have tried everything: including placing the capture files in the correct hierachy to removing FCS completely ( using Digital rebellion’s FCS remover) and reinstalling.
All to no avail: the dreaded empty settings scrawl returns.The only way I have got around this in the past is to completely reinstall the OSX. …there must be another less painful way, surely? What corrupt file is being left behind? Thanx in advance for any possible suggestions.

In the future if you have source data spread around try exporting a self-contained QT. Then Compressor will have all the data in one place.

Thanx John,
I gave ‘Compressor Repair’ a shot already … no help.
But the apple forum link suggested some more files that may not have been removed using FCS remover.
So I’ll update what happens. It definitely appears to be something that has not been properly trashed … since a complete reinstallation of OSX provides a fully working compressor again.

If you haven’t tried this already, run Disk Warrior. It will fix/repair your directory. It has rescued me many times when my system’s gone “crazy.” As the directory tells the OS where everything is, it might help.

… Removed every last connected file of Compressor prescribed by the apple forum link. Ran disc warrior.Checked to see if any more files turned up for trashing. Repaired disc permissions. Reinstalled FCS …. and same problem! …Grrrrr!
Any last suggestions before I wipe the complete disc in sheer desparation :S

Re: Working from a self contained QT : won’t that be a compressed and therefore inferior source material to the original DV Pal download ?
