  Matching 3D layer to organic shot movement

  I’m somewhat new to AE… not a pro for sure.

  I have a shot of an actor at a table. I’ve added a computer screen layer that I turned into a 3D element and oriented to make it look like a holographic screen floating in the air in front of him… also cranked down the opacity of that layer.
  The layer with the actor was shot using a hand held camera… so there is slight movement. The effect of the hologram gets blown slightly when the rest of the shot is moving slightly but the holo-screen is motionless.

  The question… What would be the best approach to linking the the hologram layer to the movement of the camera in the layer with the actor so it really looks like it’s part of the space the actor inhabits?

  Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated!

  The first one might work for you. It’s for replacing a monitor, but you can offset your hologram from any tracking points.

  AE is a 2D Tracker, if there’s a lot of 3D camera movement you need a matchmove see SynthEyes. Here’s a Cow tut and the SynthEyes site:

  Here’s the rest of the AE Tracker Tuts I know of. For a step by step on adjusting a track that goes bad (Tracks gone bad! the movie) see the 3rd part of Aharon’s series on turning video into cartoons, there he tracks an eye onto the character, starts at the 5 minute mark. It’s only a 1 point track but he shows you how to adjust frame by frame when the tracker gets cranky. Hope these help.
