I have a quicktime from a client, standard def, anamorphic, dv/dvcpro ntsc, 720×486, ccir 601, lower field. The short clip contains a lower third name title. I am supposed to add additional titles to the program. I drop the clip onto a new timeline, FCP wants to modify the sequence from DV NTSC preset, changing the frame size from NTSC DV to CCIR 601 NTSC. No problem. But when I render the timline the image becomes softer than the original. I can see this clearly when I park the playhead on the section containing the lower third that was already in the clip. I have tried changing the timeline compressor from DV to animation, pro res, etc., tried changing the frame size to DV NTSC, and changed field dominance as well. Nothing seems to work. When the playhead is parked over an unrendered part of the clip, the video looks just as good as the original, but rendering degrades the picture noticably. I am only viewing in the video in FC source/record monitors, the final video will be viewed over the net. I am at a loss.
