To big picture?
Hello! I have a picture of the hemisphere wichs is 43200×21600 pixels. And yes, I know it is a large image, and I dont expect it will go very fast.
I am creating an earth zoom, but when I place the photo in the compwindow I get this message: could not create 43200 x 21600 image buffer.How big images can AE take? And should I rather take the image into separate levels of details, and parent them?

Good luck getting an image that large into AE, especially if you actually intend to render it out.
Options are limited, and the most common approach is to slice the image into many smaller tiles (2048×2048 max) as separate layers in photoshop, then import the whole photoshop file into AE as a composition. Given your source image’s size, this could result in a lot of extra work.
Shake may be a better option for you, since it better handles such large files.

The limit is 30,000 by 30,000 in most cases.

Yes, especially when I am working on a 1080p project:P But I will try different solutions. Thanks for the help:)

Yes. At worst, AE will crash long before the 30K limit. At best, you’ll be dealing with loooong render times.
Check the sticky post on “Earth Zoom”, or the “Powers of Ten” effect.
