  • Help! FCP says reconnect files but all files are fine and visable…

On my timeline I have a series of clips and most of them are red and say “reconnect media”. I’m working the AVCHD files from my GH1 on a SD extreme card.

Although it says reconnect media, I can still open the clip in the viewer and preview the timeline in the canvas with no problem. I also exported a clip of my timeline and it works and looks fine.

Whats going on here? Am I safe to erase the footage from my SD card? I’d like to film something tomorrow and need to do this.

    Thaks!

You need to import the clips from the SD card via log and transfer before you trash them. I’d copy the original files first to a hard drive then import them. FCP can’t edit from the SD card, and it doesn’t support AVCHD directly. They must be imported through the log and transfer window and transcoded to ProRes…

Firstly are the files from the card backed up on at least two different drives? If they are then you can consider reusing the card but I would make sure that the two copies play in QT.

The thumbnails might have become corrupted so it is showing the media offline instead of the correct thumb in the timeline. You can find and delete the thumbnail cache if that is the case.
