  • Why does final cut pro ONLY launch when compressor and qmaster are UNINSTALLED?

Posted by Piff Aroni on November 21, 2009 at 5:51 pm

Good day all, I have been having a problem with FCP ever since version 6 that I have found out the hard way, that its hasn’t been fixed in FCP7.

The problem is, that FCP will NOT run unless qmaster/compressor is uninstalled. FCP will crash around when it does its RT profiling.

I asked the question on the apple forum,

    https://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10617867#10617867

only to be told by someone with 20,000 posts, that the problem was unheard of and they have never seen it before… well, funny. the only fix I found was about 5 months on the very same apple forums…., which was to REMOVE qmaster/compressor with the FCS remover app. Now FCP works, but I cant use compressor.

so this is the only place left for me to go, to hopefully find a solution to this before my hairline recedes anymore and I dont lose anymore clients.

Has anyone found a fix to this? the apple forums have not been helpful at all, as nobody even wants to acknowledge the problem is there, mean while as you see from the posts, I am not the only one. Thanks

[piff aroni] “only to be told by someone with 20,000 posts, that the problem was unheard of and they have never seen it before… “

Take a look at the top of the forum… That’s me. I said that.

And it is true, I never heard of it. You obviously have as you have seen another post or two about it. But it is FAR from a common thing. Literally HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of other users do not have this issue. Therefore it isn’t something wrong with FCP in general. It is an issue you are having, and a handful of others.

Now…you have done a full OS reinstall and FCP reinstall FRESH? Not just archive and install? And you STILL have this issue? Then I’d suspect some hardware issue (as mentioned in the Apple forum) and you should maybe take it in for service. Might be a bad processor, seeing that it is related to QMASTER, and that deals with processors.

[piff aroni] ” the apple forums have not been helpful at all, as nobody even wants to acknowledge the problem is there, “

Sure we do. WE told you possible fixes, which you tried a lot of. But you INSIST that this is common and somehow a major flaw in FCP, when in fact, it isn’t. This is a rare occurrence that has hit a very small percentage of people. NOW…another solution has been presented…hardware. I would really suggest getting your machine diagnosed at an authorized Apple repair center. I had issues once that was traced to a bad Processor and it was replaced and I was off to the races.

    Hi Piff,
I’ve been the last three years with the ears wide open in the COW and, believe me, I haven’t heard of this behave too.
Install your full FCS and run DiskWarrior or TechTools. Will work.

I have been using FCP for over ten years and have never experienced this.
I would think that a clean re-install would fix it.

The problem is, that FCP will NOT run unless qmaster/compressor is uninstalled. FCP will crash around when it does its RT profiling. < As we noted on the apple forum, it's probably a hardware or OS issue since the problem remained after updating the application. That is a binary result of an application rewrite. You are confusing a likely hardware issue, isolated to yours and those of a few other unfortunates, with a bug in the Final Cut Studio applications. > so this is the only place left for me to go, to hopefully find a solution to this before my hairline recedes anymore and I dont lose anymore clients. < Not so. There are dozens of FCP forums. Apple's and the Cow are just the best places to look first. > Has anyone found a fix to this? the apple forums have not been helpful at all, as nobody even wants to acknowledge the problem is there, mean while as you see from the posts, I am not the only one. … only to be told by someone with 20,000 posts, that the problem was unheard of and they have never seen it before… well, funny. the only fix I found was about 5 months on the very same apple forums< Let's see, that reference could be to any of several of the more prolific, experienced, knowledgable, patient, kind, and cool FCP people who hang out on most of the FCP forums in the English speaking world. If we ever get it figured out, whatever IT is, it will be as a result of discourse with people like you. Hopefully you will post your solution, when you find one, so others in your situation will not suffer as long as we have. bogiesan
