color correction and keying
Does anyone know what the best Codec is to use for color correction and/or keying out black backgrounds when coming from a HDCAM tape? I have an AJA IOHD for use of their codecs. Any suggestions?

If you have the ioHD then ProRes it is.

Thanks for the response. The question came about when a dub guy at a facility said that Prores falls apart when color grading or keying. Can you shed any light on that or can you give me any detail as to why prores is your choice?

“Prores falls apart when color grading or keying” – dub guy does not know what he is talking about. Prores is used every day basis for color correcting, keying and even heavy compositing all over the world.

Wow. First I have heard of that. ProRes has been great for both scenarios in my case. I don’t know if your ‘dub guy’ has ever tried compositing?

The ioHD will only capture to ProRes in HD. Makes that decision easy, doesn’t it? 🙂

You know, I’m tempted to ask how the dub guy knows this. After all, he’s just the dub guy… Or is he a bigger post house that also does color grading & keying?
